It Started With a Jacket

Before Motek was a brand, it was an instinct. Back in high school in 2000, when jean jackets were everything, our founder Danny Knust noticed the coolest one in the building belonged to the school janitor — a good friend of his. It wasn't flashy; it just worked. Then one day he spotted a DKNY tag on the ground, asked the janitor for the jacket, sewed the tag on, and started wearing it. Suddenly everyone wanted to know where it came from.

That's the Motek philosophy in one story: take something simple and make it shine with a small touch and a bit of confidence.

From Chile to the World

Danny's journey runs from Chile — where he first fell in love with performing and techno music — to New York, where he trained at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, to London, where he studied film editing, to Los Angeles, where Motek Sweetwear was born. Acting, music, editing, branding: Motek is where all of it comes together, stitched into clothing.

Motek means "sweet" in Hebrew. In times of division, we think that's a powerful statement — fashion can be stylish and sweet, making a positive impact while looking good. When you do sweet things in life, you get to enjoy a sweet ride.
